The cauliflower is a classic in the kitchen that does not require a very elaborate preparation. It can be taken as a main course or be the accompaniment of other dishes that have a more intense flavor, since the taste of the cauliflower is soft and combines wonderful with tasty meals.
The Best Season To Buy Cauliflower
The cauliflower season is in autumn and winter, so in the rest of the months it is rarer to find it in the supermarket or belongs to other parts of the world.
To choose a good piece of cauliflower it is important to take into account the color, which must be white to ivory, being its leaves of a green color and appear fresh or tender, since those that have brown spots will be indicating that this vegetable was already collected long ago.
The shelf life of this vegetable can reach seven days if it is well stored inside a bag and inside the refrigerator.
How to cook cauliflower
As always we talk about vegetables, the first step will be to wash the cauliflower, remove the leaves and cook whole (depending on size) or can be cut into pieces.
Introduce the cauliflower in a saucepan, the water cover and put it in the fire with salt. If you have cooked it all will be about 20 minutes to the fire, if the cooking time is cut down in half.
As in the previous case, the cauliflower must be washed whole, the leaves are removed and chopped if you want or leave whole.
In a steam-ready saucepan, a good amount of water is placed in the lower area, and the cauliflower is placed in the upper tray.
Cooking time increases only a little, but the amount of nutrients it keeps increases considerably. If the steamer cooks the cooking time is 25 to 30 minutes, while chopping is 12 to 15 minutes of cooking.
